Music For Little Ones: Intro to the Instruments

This is a one semester small group class designed to introduce your child to the joy of playing a musical instrument through fun games and exploration.

The semester long class will explore basic concepts of piano, drums, violin, and recorder to allow children to experience a variety of instruments. Each child will also learn about the staff, learn to read music, and play fun short songs.

As the semester progresses the teacher will determine the best match for private lessons for your child's learning style, instrument interest, and ultimate creativity. Private lesson teachers will visit the class to ensure a great fit and match for on going lessons.

Each semester will conclude with a recital party and placement with the perfect teacher and instrument.

We will group 4 - 6 children of like age and ability.

Each class is 45 minutes with caregivers joining for a 10 minute sharing time at the end to get homework and see what the class learned each week.

Music for Little Ones: Bears and Cubs Family Class

Our socially-distanced outdoor classes provide a vital opportunity for kids and families to enjoy the collaborative benefits of music while ensuring everyone's safety. Bears and Cubs Family Class is held in beautiful Turtle Park and Kane Park in Larchmont. This class will introduce children to the orchestral instruments and explore fundamental musical concepts. To maintain the safety of our families and teachers, these policies will be in effect for in-person classes:

- Families will provide their own blanket or towel to sit on, spaced at least 6 feet from others.
- LMA will provide each family with a personal instrument kit, which the family will bring to use during each class.
- Any shared instruments will be used by one family per class and then sanitized immediately after class.
- Masks are required for anyone over age 5 and requested for all.
- Wind instruments will not be used at this time.
- Singing will be minimized at this time.
- If the student or a family-member is sick, the family will be asked to schedule a makeup virtual class rather than attending class.
- Prior registration and agreement to follow these policies is required.

What Families Experience in Class:

  • Singing – No matter what the caregiver thinks of their own voice, it's the child's favorite voice in the world! Singing builds confidence, stimulates language development, and joyfully brings the class together.
  • Movement – In Bears and Cubs Family Class we dance, swoop, spin, rock, bounce, jump, and laugh as we develop coordination and spatial awareness.
  • Instruments – Exposure to real orchestral instruments stimulates children's curiosity, broadens their vocabulary, and gives everyone something fun to discuss later.
  • Musical Concepts – Age-appropriate activities explore a different musical concept every week, providing the foundation for a lifelong appreciation and understanding of music.
  • Highly Trained Teachers – Music For Little Ones educators are highly trained musicians and early childhood education specialists, and they are passionate about sharing the joys and benefits of music with each family.
  • Learning At Home – With the home materials set, the fun and growth continues at home with the child's favorite teacher – the caregiver!
