The Larchmont Music Academy Music Therapy Program, brings the joy and power of music to children of all ages and developmental levels. At Larchmont Music Academy, board certified and NYS licensed therapists meet with each client to assess and develop the very best program for each client's needs. The therapists use the power of music in a non-threatening environment to help each client reach their goals, be it emotional, social or physical. With singing, moving to music, listening to music, and using a wealth of musical instruments communication pathways are built and strengthened. Music therapy has been shown to facilitate movement, increase motivation and increase engagement in treatment. Emotionally, music therapy serves as an outlet for feelings, and a way to develop relationships with others.

Assessment
Each client will meet with a LMA therapist one on one to assess their strengths and needs. The assessment will take between twenty and thirty minutes and take place at the Larchmont Music Academy facility. During this assessment the therapist will determine whether individual or group sessions or a combination of both are recommended for the client. The therapist will provide a number of musical experiences for each client to learn what they respond to and enjoy, the level of communication skills and musical development. The therapist will meet with the family to develop a program to best meet the needs of the client.
Groups
Groups will be formed based on age and developmental levels. For schedules please contact the Academy. Children will be involved in singing, playing, and moving to music. These groups will emphasize socialization and self expression/communication goals. Groups will be limited to 6 students. Groups are 45 minutes long.
Individual Therapy
Individual sessions are available to allow one on one therapist to client interaction. The therapist and client will explore music through singing, moving, improvisation, and using percussion instruments, guitar, piano and many other instruments. These sessions are developed to meet each individual's needs and goals. The therapist and family will determine the length of the session based on the client's needs. These will be weekly sessions and may be taken in conjunction with group therapy. All sessions are held in our accessible and beautiful facility at 2089 Boston Post Road. We look forward to working with you and your child.
