Kindermusik Village invites you and your baby to be a part of a very special music class created to stimulate Baby’s total development and nurture the remarkable bond the two of you share. Connect with your baby and with other parents as you experience together what the latest brain research confirms: purposeful musical activities stimulate the cognitive, emotional, language, social, and physical development that all begin in the very first days of your baby’s life. Each week we will dance, explore instruments, share songs and chants, and celebrate together all of the magical milestones that are a part of Baby’s first 18 months. Lap babies, crawlers, and walkers are all welcome!

Kindermusik is much more than a weekly class. Your At Home materials you receive from your educator are just the tools you need to continue that one‐of‐a‐kind experience together as a family. While we plant the seeds of learning through music in the classroom, you will use the At Home materials at home to cultivate lifelong learning.

Family involvement in your child's learning is a fundamental cornerstone of the Kindermusik philosophy because we believe the parent is the child’s most important teacher and the home is the most important place for a child’s learning to take root and grow. After all, there’s no better way to nurture your child’s development—and you’ll love doing it together—every day!

Spring 2014 Curriculum: Toys I Make, Trips I Take

Toys I Make, Trips I Take
-- Think of it like taking a course inside a child’s imagination. We’ll use the theme of a toy shop to make our pretend-creations, using rhythm and songs with every imaginary saw, hammer, and nail. The result is building the preschooler’s sense of a sequence of events, which is good for storytelling, as well as making his ideas a reality.

  • 60 minute classes (parents/caregivers join during the last 10 minutes)
  • Once a week for 15 weeks
  • 4 sequential semesters

Kindermusik for the Young Child provides a fun‐filled, yet structured environment where children can build a strong musical foundation and prepare for a successful future of formal musical training. In class, children develop their singing voice and sense of pitch, learn to read and write rhythmic patterns, learn about instrument families and musical “moods,” and are exposed to the music of some of the world’s greatest composers. Children also learn to identify notes on the staff and then play simple melodies on their very own glockenspiel. But, perhaps the most important benefit of the class is the sense of pride and ownership that all of these newfound skills provide for your child. He can now see himself as a “real” musician and is excited to learn more!

Kindermusik for the Young Child is a four‐semester sequential program. While each semester builds on the previous, children may join the program at any time. Each class is 60 minutes and includes a 50 minute session for students alone, followed by a 10 minute sharing time, during which parents, caregivers, and siblings join the class.

Spring 2014 Curriculum

Semester Two -- Playing simple musical patterns and songs on the featured instrument from the first session—the glockenspiel—is a central focus this semester. While learning to sing a melody, and then play the pattern on the glockenspiel, we'll delve deeper into the understanding of musical concepts such as piano and forte through orchestra-style music such as the William Tell Overture and Peter and the Wolf. Music appreciation and understanding continues with a complete introduction to the instruments—and the families in which they're grouped—of the orchestra.

Home Materials: Children’s Folder with stickers, games bag, and Music At Home Cards, Family Songbook, and Home CD of music from class.

Semester Four -- The final semester of Kindermusik, for those students who have completed Young Child 1-3. As your child is introduced to basic methods of playing simple melodic patterns and songs on the recorder, we'll also incorporate the instruments, concepts, and songs from previous semesters. With a special emphasis on multicultural music, your child will learn to improvise and write music, as well as experience the musical styles of the Pacific Islands, Europe, and Africa; plus play special dances and children's games from around the world, including Alpine dances, Mexico, and Ecuador.

Home Materials: Children’s Folder with stickers, games bag, and Music At Home Cards, Family Songbook, Home CD of music from class, and soprano recorder.

Kindermusik Family Time: We're a Musical Family!

Bringing children of all ages together provides a dynamic and integrated learning experience for everyone. So we took favorite Kindermusik songs and activities like "Shake, Shake the Apple Tree" and "hammocking" and rolled them into a fun, family class where each child is welcomed and valued and family "together time" is celebrated and cherished.

What Families Experience in Class:

  • Singing – From the first "Hello" song to the last "Goodbye," exploring a variety of musical styles and genres leads children to find their own voice. Plus singing helps with memory and recall, physical development, creativity, and socialization.
  • Assorted Movement – Whether moving as a family, as a class, or as individuals, Family Time movement activities enhance coordination skills, create opportunities for imitation and exploration, and give everyone something to smile, rock, bounce, or dance about.
  • Story Time – Reading aloud to children stimulates their curiosity, expands their knowledge, and broadens their understanding of language.
  • Family Jam – Children as well as adults will love selecting a unique instrument and joining in one big class jam instrument play along session each week.
  • Musical Concepts – Fun engaging activities bring out the musicality in everyone, from the youngest member of the family to the oldest. Families learn more about music as they learn more about each other.
  • Expert advice – A Kindermusik educator explains how the musically based activities enhance each child's complete development.
  • Learning continues at home – With the home materials, the learning and bonding continues at home with the child's best teacher – the parent!
