Classes

For Fall 2020, we are pleased to ensure the safety of our families and teachers by offering outdoor and live-streamed classes. Outdoor classes are held in beautiful Kane Park in Larchmont. Our socially-distanced Family Time in the Park is an outstanding opportunity for newborns-age 6 to enjoy the collaborative benefits of music safely, while our age-specific live-streamed classes allow families to join from the comfort of home. Personalized classes for your pod are also available.

To maintain the safety of our families and teachers, these policies will be in effect for outdoor classes:

- Families will provide their own blanket or towel to sit on, spaced at least 6 feet from others.
- LMA will provide each family with a personal instrument kit, which the family will bring to use during each class.
- Any shared instruments will be used by one family per class and then sanitized immediately after class.
- Masks are required for anyone over age 5 and requested for all.
- Wind instruments will not be used at this time.
- Singing will be minimized at this time.
- If the student or a family-member is sick, the family will be asked to schedule a makeup virtual class rather than attending class.
- Prior registration and agreement to follow these policies is required.

Kindermusik Village invites you and your baby to be a part of a very special music class created to stimulate Baby’s total development and nurture the remarkable bond the two of you share. Connect with your baby and with other parents as you experience together what the latest brain research confirms: purposeful musical activities stimulate the cognitive, emotional, language, social, and physical development that all begin in the very first days of your baby’s life. Each week we will dance, explore instruments, share songs and chants, and celebrate together all of the magical milestones that are a part of Baby’s first 18 months. Lap babies, crawlers, and walkers are all welcome!

Kindermusik for the Young Child provides a fun‐filled, yet structured environment where children can build a strong musical foundation and prepare for a successful future of formal musical training. In class, children develop their singing voice and sense of pitch, learn to read and write rhythmic patterns, learn about instrument families and musical “moods,” and are exposed to the music of some of the world’s greatest composers. Children also learn to identify notes on the staff and then play simple melodies on their very own glockenspiel. But, perhaps the most important benefit of the class is the sense of pride and ownership that all of these newfound skills provide for your child. He can now see himself as a “real” musician and is excited to learn more!

Kindermusik for the Young Child is a four‐semester sequential program. While each semester builds on the previous, children may join the program at any time. Each class is 60 minutes and includes a 50 minute session for students alone, followed by a 10 minute sharing time, during which parents, caregivers, and siblings join the class.

Fall 2020 Curriculum: Young Child 1 (live-streamed or outdoor pod classes)

Semester 1— Everything your child learns later in semesters 2, 3, and 4 begins with this early introduction to singing, reading, and writing music and rhythm. Through dances and games that focus on rhythmic development, we’ll learn a keyboard instrument—the glockenspiel—which will be used throughout all the Young Child classes. Your At Home Materials provide the music, instruments, stickers, and activities for a home version of the same playful activities you’ll hear about from class, so your child—and you!—can learn where you’re most comfortable: at home.

Home Materials: Children’s folder with stickers, games bag, Music at Home cards, Family Songbook, Home CD of music from class, glockenspiel, and Young Child carry bag (during first semester).

  • Family Jam – Children as well as adults will love selecting a unique instrument and joining in one big class jam instrument play along session each week.
